Nic Ayre

Just learned that UK Motorsport has lost one of its greatest supporters. On Saturday 23rd January Nic Ayre finally succumbed to his long battle with cancer. Nic was a stalwart of North Devon Motor Club and also ran several of the ASWMC's championships for many years. He moved to Ipswich some years ago, where he was just as active on the Motorsport scene, but retained his links with the South West. I think it was in the early 80's that I first met him, when he helped us mend our trailer after a beach autocross at Westward Ho! so we could get home to Bournemouth. I remember him competing in a regional championship autotest that I was running in Ringwood car park around the same time. In about 2000, he shared a drive in my Mini at a Farnborough autocross at Odiham. Last saw him at the FDMC/Southsea autocross in 2014, but heard from him regularly on Facebook, even from his hospital bed. Rest in peace, Nic.
