If you fancy an event that is a step up from an AutoSolo, but doesn't go as far as a Tarmac Rally, then a Targa could be for you. Held on private land, the two I have done previously were held on RAF bases, using the perimeter roads and the runways!!!! The rules have been revised recently removing the need to undertake 'special' tests which involved observation, average speed, manoeuvring tests etc, to just plain driving tests. Agreed the tests aren't as fast as a sprint but a lot quicker than a Solo, having the need to drive quickly from a test map and sometimes round numbered cones etc. It is necessary to have a co-driver but, like a Solo, cars can be double driven. This event, unlike previous, is closed to club, but a membership of £10 coupled to an entry fee of £50 for a full days motorsport, I believe, represents good value. The only downside is the distance to travel to the venue which is near Ipswich!!!! Entries are limited to 75, which looking at the current list is getting close. So if you are interested do not delay, they are always well attended. For full details go on the Chelmsford MC website.
