The Harlequin - 12 Car Navigational Rally - Friday 26th Sept

Post by Scoobydo » Thu Aug 07, 2014 1:50 pm

Bill Mexson and I will be running another 12 Car Rally on Friday 26th Sept starting in Normandy and finishing near Odiham. Covering nearly 60 miles all on OS map 186, the event will cater as usual for Experts, Novices and Beginners. Regs and entry form will be posted on here at the end of August.

For those who are unaware this is a road rally run under the MSA rules and with their approval and with the knowledge of the Police.

Suitable for standard cars and a 'crew' of driver and navigator, the route is presented in the form of clues based on OS map features. This enables the competitors to plot a route and drive to the next Time Control where they receive another set of clues, and so it continues.

Clues for the Experts are reasonably tricky with the Novice clues being somewhat easier. For the Beginners we provide them with a marked map, so all they have to do is drive the route (sounds simple!!!!) All this is against the clock to make it MORE fun.

We are fortunate that within our area, there are a few clubs who regularly participate and organise events. Within this group there are crews and individuals of all abilities and with the possibility of pairing a newcomer with a more experienced driver or navigator. So, if you are interested or want more information please get in touch.

If you are not interested in competing but fancy being involved we always need marshals. So please contact me as below.

Hi All,

Am hoping to do my first event of this type...and have got stuck on the entry form

What is the "NES no if RDS to be used"? - I take it this is to use the organisers insurance which is the RDS...?

Thanks
Andrew

Hello Andrew, the RDS (Rally Driver Scheme) event insurance arrangements provided by NES are no longer available and so don't get a mention in Section 16 of the SRs (regs). You will either need to satisfy yourself that your insurance does not exclude rallying (most exclude all forms of motor sports) or apply for the REIS cover specified in section 16.

PM me if you need any further info.

Despite being credited in Graham's first post as a co-organiser I'm sorry to say that with personal commitments and the September Solo to sort out, I've not been much help! I have, however, been checking the navigation and there are some great lanes on the route so do please enter if you can.

Graham, we need that beer! I'm hoping to be there on the night to help in one way or another.

See you all out there.

OOPS! Forgot to mention that if you haven't found the regs on the FDMC website they're also available on http://www.12carcapers.co.uk. :-)

Entries Update
Dave Penycate & Andrew Elliott - Beginner (1st event)
Andrew Thompson & Jennifer Thompson - Beginner (1st event)
Russell Higgs & Dave Boulton - Beginner
John Nicholls & Simon Taylor - Novice
Eddie Gale & Andrew Hollingham - Expert
Colin Woodhouse & Chris Moore- Expert

Six entries and just over two weeks to go.

We have just enough marshals to run the event but a couple more would add a bit of comfort and even provide us with a 'secret' check or two!!! Helping an experienced marshal would give a potential competitor an insight to the sport.

Match making crew offer still available.

Finish Pub location TBA.

Graham,
That was a great drive around.
Great navigation and fantastic that a Beginner won !!!
Just like most other 12 car events I have done, we saw some great pubs out there, but no time to stop and I doubt I would ever find them again, even in the day light.

Hello all, apologies for the delay in publishing the Harlequin results. They are now available as a download from the diary spreadsheet that sits on http://www.12carcapers.co.uk and I have mailed them out to all competitors for whom I have email addresses.

There has been a change to the results announced on the night. I made a silly schoolboy maths error in totalling the minutes for Dave Boulton and Russell Higgs. Once corrected, Dave and Russell are still first in class but they slip to second overall. Still an amazing result for beginners but apologies for the disappointment!

This does of course mean that Allan and Corina Brown are now declared winners overall. Well done both.
Bill Mexson
