March Solo 2016

Post by Paul Prescott » Tue Feb 16, 2016 11:02 am

The regs are about to be published on the main web site, along with a live entry form. I would advise anyone thinking of entering to get in early, as there has been a lot of interest, particularly from the recent batch of new members. Currently, the event is scheduled to run at the Parade Ground at Bordon.

So with the looming threat of me not leaving the house to go racing this year, my wife has coughed up the money to fix the car, pay my membership and enter the event... Happy days.

3 places left this morning!
We'll need a few helpers on the day (next Sunday!), so please, any of you who maybe are not quite ready for the Solo season (like me!) why not come along and see what the others have been up to over the winter with their cars, and see if they work! There should be plenty of entertainment, with the variety of cars entered,

so if you come along to help, you'll get to see the action up close. Please PM me or call (details in the regs) if you can help.

Well, we now have a full entry for the March Solo this Sunday. But as ever, we will need a hand from a few folks to run the event smoothly. If any of you fancy a day out up close to the action, we would be very grateful; please contact me for further details. (07818747270). See the FDMC website for the final entry list, from the March Solo page.

Can't wait!

Although why I left it until tonight to pull the car apart, I don't know.

A great days motorsport.
Thanks to the organisers, marshals, time-keepers and other officials for making it such a good day.
Until the next one...
Cheers, Pewe.

Looks like the event was fantastic can't wait to try an AutoSolo myself later in the year. I was wondering how often a competitor goes wrong on an AutoSolo course?

I don't mean clipping a cone but actually going the wrong way?

Thanks!

Ha! I normally ask myself that whenever I hear the words "Wrong Test". It's surprisingly easy - going the wrong side of a cone, or missing one completely will result in a Wrong Test.

There were plenty of cameras out at the event - Anyone got any photos to share?

Have a look at this copy of the results, with "Wrong Tests" highlighted:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=171DsQ ... QjhI6CUoT4
Ideally, no one should go the wrong way after the first run. Of course one score is dropped from each course, so you can still get a good result even if you go wrong once per test. But, as you can see, a number of competitors go wrong more than once, and some competitors go the wrong way even after doing it right to start with!
We try to design tests that flow well, where each manoeuvre is within your field of view at the previous point, so you shouldn't go the wrong way, but not everyone finds it so easy. We've sat in with novice competitors who were struggling with the tests in the past, and sometimes found that even when you tell them the way to go, they still go wrong!
