Newbie from Baltimore (now in Oxford)

Post by LordBaltimore » Tue May 28, 2013 11:00 pm

Hello!

I just moved to the UK from Baltimore and am living in Oxford. I did AutoSolo events in the US in an NC Miata for a couple years (and drove a couple random cars at various events) and definitely want to keep doing it here. This forum seemed like a great place to start.

I don't have a car here yet due to ridiculous insurance costs if I'm on a U.S. license but hopefully I'll get something fun to run around in as soon as I get UK license sorted. I want to get something I can't get there and preferably something British. At the moment, I'm leaning towards an MG F for it's combination of fun, fuel economy, and cheapness, as well as the fact that I've read replacing head gasket with a Land Rover head gasket for the K-series engine will solve the head gasket failure issue. In any case, that's the plan as it stands unless someone has a better idea for under 1k.

Looking forward to meeting people at an AutoSolo!

I'll try to make it out there. I'm not certain I'll have a car yet but if I can convince a friend to go I'll try and come say hello.

Welcome to the UK! You'll need to refer to your car as a MX-5 mk3 or else you'll confuse the locals

When I arrived here 5 years ago, an FDMC member offered to share his car before even having met me so here's my chance to do the same. I'm entered into the CAR-nival autosolo on 8th June, if you're interested in co-driving and helping me to finish off my tyres let me know over PM to discuss.

Wow thanks! The sad thing is that now it's an MX-5 over there too but most people refuse to acknowledge the changeover to what the rest of the world does ;p

Heh, and to think I was worried about making friends and if the kids would like me over here ;p I like this place =D
